White House visits AIDS Action
It rsquo;s not often that people living with HIV/AIDS get to sit down and talk with the White House official responsible for implementing federal policy initiatives that directly impact them. But that rsquo;s what happened at our Boston offices on Oct. 19, when Jeffrey Crowley, Director of the Office of National AIDS Policy, participated in a town hall style meeting with about 30 clients of AIDS Action. AIDS Action represented in the POZ 100
POZ Magazine has named 100 people considered to be ldquo;the most powerful, influential and inspirational people fighting HIV/AIDS in America today. rdquo; Included in the list are AIDS Action's President amp; CEO, Rebecca Haag; Ronald Johnson, Deputy Director of our national nonprofit partner, AIDS Action Council; Dr. Valerie Stone, former AIDS Action Board Member and noted HIV/AIDS physician at Massachusetts General Hospital; and Robert Greenwald, Esq., former AIDS Action staff member who currently sits on the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS. In June, Stone and Greenwald were recognized by AIDS Action Committee for their heroic contributions to the fight against HIV/AIDS here in Massachusetts over the last several decades. Learn more.
What's going on with HIV and gay/bi men?
The CDC has released a new report showing that nearly one-in-five gay and bisexual men in 21 major urban areas surveyed in 2008 was HIV-positive, and of these men nearly half were unaware of their status. In Boston, 12% of gay and bisexual men were infected, with nearly one-in-three being unaware of their status.

Ford Hall Forum challenges AIDS community
On September 30th the Ford Hall Forum hosted a panel discussion on "AIDS, Social Justice and the Politics of Transformation," investigating the social divers of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the US. Despite advances, there are still 56,000 new HIV infections in the US each year. Blacks, Latinos, gay and bisexual men, transgender women, and the incarcerated are still disproportionately impacted by the disease.
