The symposium covers all aspects of visualization and issues affecting presentation and interaction with large and complex data sets. We encourage submission of papers covering new techniques, old techniques applied in novel ways, new methods, interesting applications, and in-depth surveys. Proceeding will be published by the IEEE Computer Society, with ISBN number, and to be indexed by IEEE Xplore and other major bibliographical search engines. IMPORTANT DATES: Submission of papers through online submission system: March 15, 2011 Submission of camera-ready (accepted submissions): May 5, 2011 Early registration deadline: May 15, 2011 Symposium: July 13, 2011 Submission procedures: [link] Symposium URL: [link] IV 2011 URL: http://www.graphicslink.co.uk/IV2011/ Events: Indian National Seminar on Computational Biology Submitted by Santhi; posted on Monday, January 24, 2011 DATE: March 16, 2011 LOCALE: Avinashilingam Deemed University for Women, Coimbatore - 641 043, Tamilnadu, India URL: http://www.avinuty.ac.in/NSCB/NSCB.HTML Abstracts for oral and poster presentations in the technical sessions of the seminar are invited from researchers, scientists and students in all areas of bioinformatics. The abstract of the paper should be submitted (not exceeding 250 words) in a format given in the seminar website. IMPORTANT DATES: Last date for the submission of abstract: February 23, 2011 Notification of acceptance: February 28, 2011 Final registration: March 4, 2011 Resources: Comprehensive Online Antimicrobial Suceptibility Database Submitted by antibiotic; posted on Monday, January 24, 2011 The best and most simple online authoritative antimicrobial (antibiotics, antifungal, antiparasitic, antiviral and antitumor) guide in my opinion is The Antimicrobial Index. Most importantly, it is regularly updated and it is freely available with no registration. It #039;s packed with antimicrobial susceptibility info in the form of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) data. URL: http://antibiotics.toku-e.com/ Education: Update: Distance courses in computational biology Submitted by Heather Vincent; posted on Monday, January 17, 2011 This is an update for those people considering taking one or more of the University of Manchester #039;s online courses, beginning in March 2011. Mathematics for metabolic modelling, using R, is nearly full. If you are interested in this course you should apply as soon as possible. There are still places available on the other March courses, listed here: [link]. There is a link from this page to an information page for each course. If you have any questions about the options, please contact heather.vincent@manchester.ac.uk. Events: CfP: Bioinformatics.Org #039;s Africa-India joint virtual conference Submitted by Prashanth Suravajhala; posted on Monday, January 17, 2011 DATES: February 10-11, 2011 LOCALE: Online at Bioinformatics.Org URL: [link] The Bifx Africa-India Joint Virtual Conference 2011 (Bifx11) follows on the success of Bifx09 and Bifx10. This joint conference is organized by Bioinformatics.Org, Bioclues.org, and the African Society of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (ASBCB). Please submit your abstracts through the Easy Chair link provided at the conference page: [link] IMPORTANT DATES: Abstract submission deadline: February 1, 2011 Notification of Acceptance: February 6, 2011 Conference: February 10-11, 2011 Announcement: EMBnet.journal 16.1 is out Submitted by Erik Bongcam-Rudloff; posted on Thursday, January 13, 2011 The inaugural issue of EMBnet.journal: bioinformatics in action is out! This first issue marks the complete transition from EMBnet.News, an online magazine produced by the EMBnet community since 1994. EMBnet.journal will provide biomedical scientists with practical information to help tackle routine data-analysis tasks (basic and advanced), implement complex, multi-faceted IT architectural infrastructures and address the many new challenges of modern, data-driven life sciences research. This new online journal will comprise two main parts: one part will focus on peer-reviewed primary research articles, reviews and technical notes and the other part will contain useful information and resources including commentaries, user-guides, training information and news. We are now accepting manuscripts for review and publication and look forward to receiving your contributions and feedback. Submit your articles at: [link]. Or contact us at Erik.Bongcam@hgen.slu.se URL for this issue: [link] Software: gCut 1.0 DNA restriction analysis tool Submitted by amir chaouki; posted on Monday, December 27, 2010 gCut is a tool for restriction analysis in a DNA sequence. It will find the restriction sites of a given enzyme (tetra and hexa enzymes only) and perform the cut. It #039;s written in Python, compatible with FASTA format sequences, and can analyse sequences of any size. Example of tetra and hexa enzymes: EcoRI G/AATTC (hexa), HaeIII GG/CC (tetra) AVAILABILITY: http://gcut.sourceforge.net/ Software: UGENE v1.9 released Submitted by Mike Fursov; posted on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 UGENE is free, open-source bioinformatics software. It has a friendly user interface, runs on Linux, Windows, MacOS and Solaris, contains a library of highly optimized algorithms, and has very moderate hardware requirements to run. This release includes: Support for quot;cloning in silico quot;. From now on, it is possible to automatically digest sequences into fragments and construct new molecules from defined fragments. This functionality is the first step to fully support the cloning feature, which is one of the top requests from UGENE users. Brand new feature: Query Designer. This tool lets you analyze complex signals in the DNA sequence using simple rules to set constraints for algorithms. Check for more details in the corresponding documentation section. HPC and GPGPU support: The Smith-Waterman algorithm now works using OpenCL on both AMD and NVIDIA cards. And much more...
