Sheffield FC 3 v Garforth Town FC 5
By Paul Bracewell
Town striker Adam Priestley put in a dazzling performance to post a four goal salvo and shoot Garforth Town into the next round of the Evo Stik Presidents Cup.
It looked far from possible in a first half where the visitors were overrun by a lively Sheffield side and deservedly took an early two goal lead.  A poor defensive header allowed David Graham to steal in and shoot home after only 10 mins, and it wasn’t long before Brian Cusworth made it two for the home side, rising unchallenged at the far post to place a looping header into the opposite corner of the net.
A glimmer of hope for Town came in the last five mins of the half,  a Chris Howarth shot was blocked, Jamie Price headed just wide of the up right and Adam Priestley raced through into the box only to drag his effort wide.
Early into the second half David Graham could have extended Sheffield’s lead to three on several occasions and put the tie to bed,  when only Town keeper Brendan Wood to beat he shot wide,  and then he failed to convert a penalty.
The visitors took confidence from this and began to press forward. Jamie Price shot dipped narrowly over the bar, and a Declan Normaschild header was cleared off the line. Priestley finally got his reward on the hour mark, reducing the deficit, Howarth placing a perfectly weighted through ball for him to run onto and shoot past Pettinger.
Steve Nichol brought on substitutes Paul Walker and Dominic Blair as Town began to dominate. Priestley at this stage was rampant causing numerous problems to a tiring defence.  It was therefore no surprise when the equaliser came, again getting behind the home defence to fire home.  His hatrick goal came moments later, Pettinger parried a Price drive only for the ball to fall at the feet of  Priestley who prodded home.
Sheffield’s Graham took the game into extra time with a well executed lob over Wood, but Priestley produced the goal of the game shortly in to the first period, racing on from his own half, he went past three defenders and shot wide of Pettinger into the net.  Dominic Blair sealed the victory late on with a exquisite outside of the foot lob.

Trafford 2 v Garforth Town AFC 2
by Paul Bracewell
Town were denied at the death from taking all three points in a match that they dominated for lengthy periods of the game.
With the kick off being delayed due to a serious accident on the M62, causing Garforth to arrive late, the visitors got off to the worst possible start as Trafford new signing Tommy Taylor shot home within 2 mins.  This however didn’t deter Town, as they proceeded to dominate the half with some fine intricate play with an equaliser looking likely at every attack.
Adam Priestley thought he had made the scores level on the quarter hour only for the flag to be held high for offside.  They didn’t have long to wait,  Paul Walker produced a raking cross come shot that found Priestley at the far post who drilled home.
Walker was the architect of Town’s second, his delicately timed through ball allowed Jamie Price to run through and strike a shot across home keeper Tom Read into the left hand corner.
Further chances fell to Garforth in the half but they were unable to extend their lead.  Reid making a superb save from a Declan Normaschild header, and Ben Small dragging his effort wide when in a good position.
The visitors continued to create chances into the second period, Reid saving with his legs when one on one with Walker, and then denying Priestley, parrying his shot around the post.  Defender Tom Marron had a golden opportunity to make it three heading wide when unchallenged from a corner.
However continued missed chances proved to be costly in the end, as prolific Trafford striker Scott Barlow, quiet for most of the game, shot home in off the post from a tight angle with only two minutes remaining.
At the final whistle it felt more like a defeat than a draw,  but Town can take encouragement from their overall excellent performance and the chances they have created in their games so far.
Town are next in action on Saturday at the Genix Healthcare Stadium in the League to face AFC Fylde, kick off 3pm.
