iPhone 5 Out Start of 2011? Let the Moaning and Rumours Commence!
by Jay Garrett on October 7, 2010
This could be annoying if owning the latest Apple product is extremely important to you.
It appears that the Cupertino-based purveyor of gadgety niceness is developing the iPhone 5 for launch early next year and that this device will feature a redesign as to avoid the widely (but not experienced by me) reported shortcomings of the iPhone 4.
The Wall Street Journal states that “people familiar with the matter” have confirmed the next generation iPhone will be pushed forward from its annual product cycle to contend with a rise in competitive high-end smartphones running versions of the Google Android operating system. The Wall Street Journal #8217;s contact also said that the iPhone 5 will feature a “different form factor”.
A Q1 release would mean that actual production of the newest iPhone should start in the next month or so to prepare for a Spring launch.
This puts a little more weight to the repeated claims that US mobile network provider Verizon Wireless is preparing to stock a new iPhone early in 2011.
I wonder if there #8217;ll be some special deals as releasing the next gen iPhone surely would put Steve Jobs in a position where he would have to admit the failings of iPhone 4?
Would it be safe to predict a new antenna set-up? Perhaps 1.2GHz processor and maybe a larger screen and memory?
Maybe it will be completely see-through? Who knows? I #8217;m sure one will be #8216;found #8217; in a bar very soon
How annoyed would you iPhone 4 owners be if iPhone 5 was released early 2011?

New to Facebook for 2010: Groups #8230; Really!
by Jay Garrett on October 6, 2010
There #8217;s plenty of you out there that have added people that you don #8217;t know to your Facebook #8216;Friends #8217; list #8211; admit it.
Perhaps you #8217;ve also added your parents, work manager and that temp that you fancied.
Now #8211; this is all well and good but you might have to censor yourself a bit. No bragging that you #8217;ve just thrown a sickie because you #8217;re travelling to see your favourite band or perhaps your ex is still in your #8216;Friends #8217; list and you #8217;re not really on Friendly terms.
Well, Facebook has just introduced the new “Groups” feature. This means that you can now invite your friends to join you in little private (if you so wish) areas where you can share wall posts, links, photos, videos, events, documents and engage in group chat.
Yup #8211; Facebook has just invented #8230; #8230; Facebook!
This just shows that some users have lost control of their #8216;networks #8217; or, simply Facebook has got so large that Planet Facebook now needs Countries, which needs districts, cities, towns, villages, and you get the idea. Not bad for the worse site on the web eh?
Groups are closed by default (but can be secret or open) and are designed to be spaces where small groups of friends share information, with each group controlled by the entirety of its members — an important new direction for Facebook. The group chat feature is just as it sounds; members can participate in back-and-forth IM conversations with everyone in the group at the same time.
Once you start participating in Groups, the most-viewed ones will automatically live in the left-hand navigation of the page for easier access.
I #8217;m thinking a family #8216;Group #8217;, a #8216;Group #8217; for the musicians I #8217;m friends and network with, a drinking buddies #8216;Group #8217; for arranging nights out, etc.
Yup #8211; Planet Facebook can now be broken down into usable chunks once more.
Bounce over here to have a play.
What do you think?
