Low carbon vehicles rollout gathers pace
The Ultra Low Carbon Vehicle demonstrator programme is reaching a peak of activity, as more manufacturers and partners launch their trials under the programme in regions around the UK. In June a total of 100 smart EVs were handed over to drivers in London and Birmingham, including this one to Prof Julia King, Vice-Chancellor of Aston University.

Rebalancing the economy
A new report has highlighted the importance of high technology and innovation in generating growth. The Rebalancing Act report, prepared by NESTA, concludes “policy for growth should be focused on two ends: fostering an environment in which innovative firms can flourish; and making sure that the government policy framework as it affects high-potential, high-tech sectors, provides vision and long term certainty.”

The benefits of SBRI
The relaunched SBRI scheme has so far seen 16 government bodies allocating innovative companies more than 450 contracts worth over £27m to develop new solutions to government needs. For example, Creo Medical is developing technology to boost hospital cleanliness through swift, thorough, hand sterilisation without the need for scrubbing with soaps or gels.
