(Discuss the Los Angeles Lakers in our basketball forum) Gasol dominated the Portland Trailblazers with 20 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists as the Lakers cruised to 121-96 win. “We’re a pretty good team,” said Kobe Bryant. “We’re just playing extremely well together. We’re a deep team, we’re an unselfish team, and this is what you get.” Gasol was already flirting with the triple double after the first half; garnering 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists by halftime. share this article: Los Angeles Lakers, Portland Trailblazers, Triple Doubles: Comment (0) Video: Timofey Mozgov dunk against Wizards Posted by Stuart Leung on 06 Nov 2010 at 9:55 am The 24-year old Russian rookie takes a pass from Amare Stoudemire and dunks against the Washington Wizards last night: embed The 7-1, 270lb Mozgov is in his first year with the New York Knicks. share this article: New York Knicks, russia, video, washington wizards: Comment (0) Sabonis running for Governor of Oregon? Posted by Stuart Leung on 05 Nov 2010 at 7:43 am SABONIS FOR GOVERNOR 2010! (Discuss) These Sabonis posters were sarcastically plastered around the Portland area as former Blazer Chris Dudley lost his bid to become Oregon #8217;s new Governor. Interbasket wonders if Big Red is a Democrat, GOP or independent? share this article: Lithuania, Portland Trailblazers: Comment (0) Fabricio Oberto retires from NBA, basketball Posted by admin on 05 Nov 2010 at 7:30 am Argentina international Fabricio Oberto has decided to retire because of the arrhythmia that he has experienced since 2008. (Discuss Fabricio Oberto in our forum) The 35-year-old only recently signed a contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. Despite receiving treatment for his condition, he felt lightheadedness and dizziness during the first half of Portland’s game at Milwaukee three days ago. Portland said Oberto had retired “due to recurrent palpitations related to a prior cardiac condition”. Oberto said in a statement: #8220;I made this decision to put my health and my family in front of basketball. #8220;It was a tough decision to make after playing for so many years, but it was the right one. #8221; Oberto is a part of Argentina #8217;s golden generation and his first major tournament with the South American giants was the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. His most famous games in an Argentina shirt came at the 2002 FIBA World Championship when he and his teammates reached the Final before losing to Yugoslavia in overtime. Two years later and Oberto helped Argentina capture the gold medal at the Athens Olympics. He played for Argentina at the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey. Argentina Basketball Confederation president German Vaccaro paid tribute to Oberto. #8220;I have mixed feelings, #8221; Vaccaro said. #8220;On one side, (there is) the calmness of knowing that he has taken this decision and that it #8217;s the best for him and his family. #8220;On the other hand, the sadness not to see him wear the white and blue colors again. #8220;Fabricio is the best center in the history of our basketball, an incredible guy. #8220;We will have to find him a role to have him close to our sports. #8220;I can only finish off by saying, one thousand thank you’s, Fabri. #8221; Close friend and Argentina teammate, Manu Ginobili, put a message about Oberto’s retirement on his facebook page. Ginobili wrote: “My good friend F. Oberto announced that he #8217;s retiring. One of the best teammates ever. Best of luck 4 him in what #8217;s coming. Besides being a g8 teammate, he won Arg League, SouthAm League, King #8217;s Cup, ACB, ULEB Cup, Olympic Gold and NBA. Not a bad resume.” Read the original article at FIBA.com. share this article: Argentina, Portland Trailblazers, San Antonio Spurs: Comment (0) Record 84 international players as 2010-11 NBA season opens Posted by admin on 31 Oct 2010 at 3:47 pm A record 84 international players from 38 countries will be on opening night rosters when the NBA tips off a new season on Tuesday. (Discuss the record number of international players in the NBA) The 84 international players is just one player more than the previous record of 83, from the opening night in the 2006-07 campaign. The small increase is a continuation of the steady rise of international players in the NBA. A decade ago, the rosters featured 45 foreign players from 28 countries and territories, an 86% increase. Only two of the league #8217;s 30 teams will be without at least one foreign player on opening night (check out the most xenophobic NBA teams). The Toronto Raptors will have the most international flair with six international players from six different countries, Australia, Brazil, Italy, Lithuania, Nigeria and Spain. The Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz will both field five foreign born players while eight teams boast four players from other countries. France provided the most players with 11 followed by Turkey with five and Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Serbia, and Spain each with four. share this article: Argentina, Brazil, France, Serbia, Turkey, canada: Comment (0) CSKA Moscow topples Cleveland Cavs 90-87 Posted by admin on 17 Oct 2010 at 2:16 pm CSKA Moscow, one of the top teams in the Euroleague held onto a 90-87 win over the Lebron James-less Cleveland Cavs in the annual Euroleague-NBA tour. (Discuss the CSKA-Cavs game in our basketball forum) The win is the first-ever Euroleague win on U.S. soil #8211; to cap the Euroleague American Tour Daniel Gibson scored 21 points, Ryan Hollins 17 points and the newly-acquired Ramon Sessions added 14 for Cleveland who were missing four of their five starters #8211; Mo Williams, Antawn Jamison, Anthony Parker, and Anderson Varejao. Ramunas Siskauskas, of Lithuania, scored 22 points, Jamont Gordon added 19, and former Duke star Trajan Langdon scored 14 points to lead CSKA Moscow, which finished its tour of NBA teams with a 1-2 record already having lost to the Miami Heat and New Orleans Hornets on their trip. share this article: CSKA Moscow, Cleveand Cavs: Comment (1) Pic: Zhu Fangyu punches Brazilian in China-Brazil Brawl Posted by admin on 14 Oct 2010 at 11:37 am Chinese basketball player Zhu Fangyu connects on a Brazilian player during the China-Brazil basketball brawl that occurred Tuesday. The Chinese Basketball Association issued an apology for the brawl, that began with early physical play that caused the game to end before even the first quarter was over. Team Brazil refused to play in today #8217;s scheduled fourth game in their series. Check out the melee on video. Fourth game in a series? Yikes, you #8217;re just asking for trouble when two teams play each other over and over as it #8217;s inevitable that bad feelings develop.
