A Joke...
Blogged by James Preece 10 Hours ago...
Q. What's the difference between Terry Pratchett and Terry Prendergast?
A. One has been heard speaking about a bizarre fantasy world of his own creation and the other is Terry Pratchett.
Alternative ending...
A. One of them gives talks at conventions to people who like to dress up in costumes and act out fantasies with other men and the other is Terry Pratchett.
Another alternative ending...
A. Archbishop Vincent Nichols has heard of Terry Pratchett.
Oh no! Not another alternative ending...
A. When Terry Pratchett features in the news as contradicting the Catholic Church, you can find mention of Archbishop Vincent Nichols objection in the next paragraph...
Terry Prendergast made his comments on marriage over seven weeks ago and Archbishop Nichols has done nothing!
Now that's a joke.

People called James Preece
Blogged by James Preece 3 Days ago...
There are many more James Preece's in the world...
I am aware of a James Preece in London who works with computers. There's a James Preece who sells stained glass in Devon and there's a James Preece who is an actor and the James Preece who is a "dating guru" (actually, I think the latter two might be the same guy). My favourie James Preece has to be the apprentice carpenter who is apparently very sexy.
I wonder if it bothers them that typing "James Preece" in to google brings up some Catholic religious nutter.
Anyways, today I discovered a new James Preece on the block has done very well with his exam results...
Among the highest scoring candidates were James Preece, who got 10 A*s, one A and one A level, and Amy Cooper, who achieved 10 A*s and two As.
Headteacher Greg Dixon said: We are delighted with the results achieved by our pupils

Nice one.
Maybe we should have a convention?

You won't be able to try this at home because you probably don't have all the technical equipment required. Still, it's good to know how these things are done.

Inexorably Distancing: The Movie
Blogged by James Preece 4 Days ago...
I hadn't realised that video of the Catholic Herald interview with Archbishop Vincent Nichols was online. It's interesting to notice what emphasis he places on which words.
embed
Perhaps I am reading too much in to his body language, but it seems to me that he is rather dismissive of people who "don't like some aspect of how the Mass is being celebrated or the music that's been chosen or something".
I also don't like his use of the words "don't like". It is not a question of "likes".
The Church teaches that "it is the right of all of Christs faithful that the Liturgy, and in particular the celebration of Holy Mass, should truly be as the Church wishes, according to her stipulations as prescribed in the liturgical books and in the other laws and norms." and that the Eucharist "is too great for anyone to permit himself to treat it according to his own whim" and that when people do "they deprive Christs faithful of their patrimony and their heritage." (Redemptionis Sacramentum 11 12)
When you muck around with the Mass, you deprive people of what is "the right of all of Christs faithful" and "their patrimony and their heritage".
That is what people don't like.

The night jobs
Blogged by Ella Preece 5 Days ago...
Joanne has been having the classic trouble of teeth coming into the gums and last night she had it particularly bad. It was time for some of that calpol magic and James is one of those hero father's who does those sorts of jobs in the night...
"James, I think we should give her some calpol""I can give her the LCD one""I do not think we have LCD calpol James?!""Yes, for the LCD emmulator problem"
"I do not think her teeth have an LCD emmulator problem!"
Needless to say that by the time James had establised that her was going to get the calpol Joanne had settled herself back down and was over the worst of it. The beauty of James' night conversations is that not only does he appear to be perfectly awake but he also claims to be, maybe I just do not know about LCD emmulator teeth problems?!

How to deal with the police...
Blogged by James Preece 5 Days ago...
These days the police in the UK basically exist for the purposes of ignoring the people who break in to your home or steal your bicycle while they carefully spy on your every move looking for an excuse to slap an on the spot "guilty until proven innocent" fine on you.
When Ella's grandmother (in her 80s) reported criminal damage to the police they told her that if she caught the person then she should give them a ring and let them know(!) When a friend of ours was lost in Birmingham and she accidentally went 4mph over the limit they were right on it.
When we see a policeman, we don't feel safe, we feel at risk. Which is why I think this response from Climate Camp is fantastic. The police want to know where they will be holding their next camp (today) and Climate Camp respond...

Please note:
This blog entry is not intended as a ringing endorsement for Climate Camp.
GK Chesterton once wrote... "I do not know whether the aims of the Salvation Army are excellent, but I am quite sure their methods are admirable."
I feel similarly about these Climate Camp people. I do not know whether their aims are excellent, in fact I am fairly sure that some of them are not.
Their methods, however, are amazing.

To the Blessed Virgin Prayer for England
O Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and our most gentle Queen and Mother, look down in mercy upon England thy "Dowry" and upon us all who
greatly hope and trust in thee.
By thee it was that Jesus our Saviour and our hope was given unto the world; and He has given thee to us that we
might hope still more.
Plead for us thy children, whom thou didst receive and accept at the foot of the cross.O sorrowful Mother! intercede for our separated
brethren,
that with us in the one true fold they may be united to the supreme Shepherd, the Vicar of thy Son.Pray for us all, dear Mother, that by faith
fruitful in good works we may all deserve to see and praise God, together with thee, in our heavenly home.
Amen.
Couple's Prayer
O God, our heavenly Father, protect and bless us. Deepen and strengthen our love for each other day by day.
Grant that by thy mercy, neither of us may ever say one unkind word to the other. Forgive and correct our faults, and make us constantly to forgive one another should one of us unconsciously
hurt the other.
Make us and keep us sound and well in body, alert in mind, tender in heart, and devout in spirit. O Lord, grant us each to rise
to the other's best. Then, we pray thee, add to our common life such virtues as only thou canst give. And so, O Father, consecrate our life and love
completely to thy worship, and to the service of all about us, especially those whom thou hast appointed us to serve, that we may always stand before
thee in happiness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Babies Bedtime Prayer
Father, thankyou for all the good things that have happened to me today.Thankyou for keeping me safe and well, thankyou for fun and laughter
with my friends, thank you for what I have learned, thank you for all those that I love.
Help us all to sleep soundly tonight.
Amen.
