City Government of Masbate conducts Barangay
Orientation on Good Governance and Budgeting
The barangay officials
along with the barangay secretaries and barangay treasurers of the thirty (30)
barangays in the City underwent a two-day orientation on good governance and
budgeting held last January 5-6, 2011 at Magallanes Colisuem.
This orientation was
carried-out to equip the barangay officials especially the newly-elected and
newly-appointed barangay employees on their respective roles, functions and
responsibilities as barangay leaders as mandated by law. It is just an initial
training that they will go through since the Department of Interior and Local
Government will provide them with an intensive seminar on barangay governance.
One of the most important and crucial session was training them on the proper
utilization of their financial resources or the budgeting.

CITY GOVERNMENT OF MASBATE GOVERNANCE WARRIORS CONQUERS ILOILO CITY FOR PGS BOOTCAMP

Last January 19-23, technical working group dubbed as
governance warriors of Performance Governance System (PGS) attended the Boot
Camp held at Sarabia Manor Hotel, Iloilo City which coincides with the
celebration of Dinagyang Festival. The participation of the City Government was
headed by Hon. Socrates M. Tuason, City Mayor along with Hon. Ruby Sanchez-City
Councilor, Rowena Tuason-CPDC, Isaias F. Bigol- PGS Focal Person, Marina
Merioles-PDO I and Marlon Ditan-media representative/private sector rep.
This is the 3rd PGS Boot Camp conducted by the
Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA) held to gain upper hand in the battle
for PGS implementation in every organization whether a national line agency or
a local government unit. It is an intensive four-day seminar aimed at enhancing
the capacities of PGS partner in installing the system in their respective
organizations. It covers the how-tos and governance values that are
indispensable to PGS success. The resource speakers came from the ISA led by
Dr. Jesus P. Estanislao, its Chairman. They imparted valuable and comprehensive
insights and learning to arm the technical working group with the necessary
capacities needed for the institutionalization of the system.
After the 4-day seminar, the City delegation
formulated the action plan for the next activities they will undertake. The
City Government is working to level up in the Compliance Stage after it has
been awarded the Initiation Stage in February 2008 at Sofitel Plaza Hotel in Manila.
A memorandum of agreement was signed between the ISA- non-profit,
non-partisan, independent institution that seeks to improve public governance
through citizen participation and the City Government of Masbate by virtue of Resolution
No. 089-10.

ELECTED BARANGAY OFFICIALS TAKE-OATH OF OFFICE

On
November 30, 2010, re-elected and newly-elected barangay officials from the 30
barangays of the City along with the Sangguniang Kabataan Officials will take
their oath of office at 9:00 in the morning. The oathtaking will be officiated
by Hon. Socrates M. Tuason, City Mayor. The barangay election was held last
October 26, 2010 after a day delay from the mandated October 25. Last November 19, 2010, these elected
officials underwent the barangay orientation. Mr. Raynard Garrucho, OIC City
Director of DILG was the resource speaker.

MASBATE CITY ELECTORATES CHOOSE NEW LEADERS

The people of Masbate City have spoken on who will lead
them in the next three years last May 10, 2010. It was a historical day for the
City’s electorates when they exercised their right of suffrage through the 1st
automated elections. It is a new mandate for the newly-elected officials who were
proclaimed last may 11, 2010 at the Sangguniang Panglungsod Office, only a day
after the election. Emerged winners are mostly the incumbent candidates.
Elected officials in the City of Masbate are as follows:

Chief Executive of the City . The Sangguniang Panglungsod members will compose

officials will serve the people with the highest standard of public service to
achieve the City’s vision of a vibrant Masbate City in 2020.

Announcement
ONE STOP SHOP PROGRAM FOR 2011One Stop Shop Program for 2011 of LGU-Masbate City is on--going. This
facilitates issuing of Business Permits and Licenses of business owners
in the city through the presence of all stakes in licensing (city
departments and line agencies). It started last January 7 and will end
on January 20. However, securing of business license is a year round
activity.
Mayor Socrates Tuason provided an extension of a no
surcharge for securing late of business permit which started last January 21 at
ends in January 31. After the grace period, there will be 25% surcharge based

Program and Project
There are considerable milestones the City Government
have been reaping and continue to implement programs and projects to improve
the quality of life of Masbate #328;os and make the City more livable. Aside from
the annual program and project the City Government is implementing, it
formulates innovative programs and improves its services for the betterment of
the City as a whole and the satisfaction of the constituents.
