A brief history
The first human-computer interaction came to be in 1951. 1969 saw the birth of the first home video game console, and throughout the seventies gaming became more and more mainstream. The Golden Age of video arcade games spanned a short four years, and kicked off in 1979. The eighties was the decade of the computer gaming market and 16-bit machines. Handhelds took over in the nineties, and the 21st century is ruled by the Nintendo DS, the PSP, Playstation and Wii. But even more, perhaps, by mobile games and the internet. Ignite
Ignite is run by locals, for locals. Founded in Seattle, the events are held around the world. Ignite is fast-paced and merciless, but most of all they're fun, thought-provoking nights, full of fresh ideas and clever insights. Speakers get five minutes to present their idea. They make use of twenty slides that auto-advance every fifteen seconds. Ignite serves as a platform for locals to connect offline and have a drink together.

We played old skool arcade games like Pong, Donkey Kong Jr, Space Invaders, Breakout and Mortal Kombat. Dj's Master Fader and The Snail spun some appropriate tunes, and if you couldn't beat your opponent at Mortal Kombat, you could always try to out-dance them on Dance Dance Revolution. A heated hodgepodge of fun, competition, frustration and pictures of naked women.

Arcade opening, december 18th
Level 2: Arcade
Arcade is about the history of gaming culture. We successively completed Level 1 in November 2010. Seven new interactive gaming installations were made during the Dev Camp, and presented at Sensor Fest. Level 2 is all about video arcade machines and was opened on Saturday December 18, at Mediamatic Bank. Come by anytime before March 27th 2011 to have a go at the games yourself. Space Invaders - Space Invaders is een arcadespel, ontworpen in 1978 door Toshihiro Nishikado. Het werd oorspronkelijk gemaakt door Taito en de licentie voor de Verenigde Staten werd gegeven aan Midway.
