Wow this was a quick step from 1.5.2 to 1.5.3. NagVis 1.5 stable released
2010, June 15 - 19:06
We are proud to announce the new stable release 1.5 of NagVis. The new release is a big step to make NagVis faster and easier to use. There are many changes compared to the last stable release 1.4.7. The most important of them are:The MKLivestatus backend is the default backend now. You don't need a relational database like MySQL and the NDO anymore. This gives NagVis a big performance gain and makes the Nagios+NagVis easier to use and maintain. You simply need to extend your Nagios installation with the MKLivestatus NEB module. The layout of NagVis has been reworked. We spent some time making the default frontend and the WUI easier to use. Each user can choose an individual language from the available ones. There is some sort of language auto-detection included now.We introduced a feature called weathermap lines. Using the weathermap lines you can visualize e.g. the network load of a wide are network connection using a line which is colored depending on the current load using more than the typical OK/WARNING/CRITICAL colors. The base NagVis directory is not below nagios/share anymore. NagVis uses an own base directory now.The authentication/autorization mechanism have been recoded. NagVis uses an internal SQLite database for storing user credentials and permissions. The default authentication mechanism is to use a HTML based logon form. It is still possible to use a basic authentication or similar. We use a role based permission concept where every user can have several roles and the users permissions are built from the summary of the roles permissions.Multiple automaps are possible now. It is possible to store automap views by using automap configuration files. Context menus and automap-to-automap links can be used on the automaps. Additional to the child trees the automaps support parent trees now. The automap supports a quot;problem automap quot; mode which hides all child/parent branches which have no problem in it.Look-n-feel of the WUI has been reworked with a new design and a new navigation using the NagVis header menu. The WUI has an optional grid to help positioning objects on the map. It is now easy to clone regular objects. The NagVis Installer supports a transparent update from NagVis 1.4x to 1.5x. It should migrate all your custom files during the upgrade. The Installer removes deprecated options from your map configuration files during upgrade (if told to do so).All in all we improved the performance by some internal redesigns and redesign of the backend interface. During this step we had to drop the merlin backend temporally - but it will be included again once we get the new version finished. These are only the most important changes to NagVis. You can find a detailed technical view on the latests changes in the changelogs. You can download NagVis 1.5 via the download-page.Have fun using NagVis 1.5 and please report any problems and bugs.

NagVis 1.5b4 released
2010, April 28 - 23:49
We just released NagVis 1.5b4. This is a major fix release which includes many usability improvements but also a major change in the backend layer which will result in a real performance gain in most environments. Many browser compatibilty problems in the WUI with older versions of Firefox and IE have been fixed so the WUI should work with IE7 and above and Firefox and above. The performance improvement in the backend layer has been reached by a major change in the architecture. A small drawback is that the Merlin MySQL backend has not been updated yet so it won't work in this test release. Plus the ndo2fs backend has been dropped with this version since it was not worth to update it.We fixed several small bugs in the regular frontend and added small improvements here and there. For a detailed view on the changes in NagVis 1.5b4 have a look at the changelog. You may download NagVis 1.5b4 from the download-page.Please keep up testing the new versions to quickly get it to a stable version.Links:NagVis 1.5b4: changelogNagVis 1.5b4: download

NagVis 1.4.5 released
2009, November 27 - 17:57
NagVis 1.4.5 has just been released. Basically it is a maintenance release with minor bugfixes concerning the installer and automap but it also includes two really interesting new features. These changes are backports from the still unstable NagVis 1.5 code. But we wanted to make these features available to the public prior to the first NagVis 1.5 releases. The first feature gives you the possibility to configure the weight/coverage of the single states and substates. Until this version it was not possible to tell NagVis for example to let a host in warning state cover an acknowledged critical host when summarizing the states of a hostgroup. Starting from this release the behavior is totally customizable. The weight of the single states during the state comparisions can be configured right on your needs. The second and more interesting feature is the new backend called mklivestatus. The mklivestatus backend is a new data provider which fetches the Nagios state informations directly from the Nagios core process using the livestatus eventbroker module. The livestatus module has been developed by Mathias Kettner. The mklivestatus module provides a unix socket for data exchange. The main advantage of this module is that it provides direct access to the status information in the Nagios core without storing any information in a database or file. This way it is extremely fast to get the status information since it is only CPU time needed to gather those information. No disk IO or memory processing at all. When using the mklivestatus backend you don't need the NDO database anymore. This means when you installed the NDO just because of NagVis you could remove the NDO from you Nagios installation. To be able to use the mklivestatus backend you need to extend your Nagios core with the livestatus eventbroker module. The module can be downloaded here. The documentation on how to install the module can be found here. Additionally you may need to extend your PHP with the socket extension. For a detailed view on the changes in NagVis 1.4.5 have a look at the changelog. You may download NagVis 1.4.5 from the download-page.Links:Livestatus: documentationLivestatus: downloadNagVis 1.4.5: changelogNagVis 1.4.5: download
