neweurasia #8217;s Managing Editor for the English site, Christopher Schwartz, comments on the conflation of fact and theory in the Western media, whether it is right to blame the Kyrgyz for the crisis, and what is ultimately at stake in the tragic events of Osh. #8220;I want you to open your eyes, #8221; he writes. #8220;Evil doesn #8217;t care about the who #8217;s and how #8217;s of its terrible deeds. #8221;

The situation in Osh has been calm for the last few days except for occasional shootings here and there and terrifying rumors about #8220;new violent acts #8221; supposedly started in this or that area of the city, which thank God have turned out to be false so far.  People on both sides are glad that the mass violent acts have stopped, but we #8217;re still living under fear.  So, here #8217;s the latest:

Written by Mirsulzhan on Sunday, 20 June 2010 | No Comment
During his Angelus address this Sunday, Pope Benedict XVI appeals for end to dramatic situation in Kyrgyzstan. Speaking to an estimated 20 thousand people who withstood unseasonably bad weather, the Holy Father said:
“ #8217;I want to make an urgent appeal so that peace and security are quickly restored in southern Kyrgyzstan, following serious clashes in recent days. To the relatives of the victims and those suffering from this tragedy I express my heartfelt closeness and assure them of my prayers. I also invite all ethnic communities in the country to forgo any further provocation or violence and I ask the international community to work so that humanitarian aid quickly reaches the affected populations”.

Written by Schwartz on Saturday, 19 June 2010 One Comment
There are rumors swirling around that a new uprising is about to happen among the Kyrgyz in the north of the Kyrgyzstan or possibly between the Kyrgyz and smaller minorities like the Uighurs. neweurasia #8217;s Mirsulzhan Namazaliev advises against listening to such rumors because they potentially endanger the stability of the country, and neweurasia #8217;s Schwartz adds that talk of #8220;ethnic cleansing #8221; and #8220;genocide #8221; may be as harmful as it is potentially inaccurate.
