Bubuakei Jabbi Drags APC Gov’t to Supreme Court
Lawyer Dr. Bu-Buakei Jabbi has on Monday March 14, 2011 filed documents at the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone challenging H.E. President Koroma’s method of setting up a Commission of Inquiry into the activities of the [erstwhile] Paramount Chief of Biriwa Chiefdom in Bombali District, P.C. Dr. Alpha Madseray Sheriff II. According to Jabbi’s Originating Notice of Motion filed on behalf of Dr. Sheriff, President Koroma used the Provinces Act of 1960 to set up the Inquiry, contrary to the implications of Subsection 72(4) of the current Constitution of Sierra Leone and contrary to Section 19 of the subsequent 2009 Chieftaincy Act.

Juana, a final year student at Fourah Bay College (FBC), Bockarie Samai, a commercial motorbike rider, and Fasallay Kamara, a pit digger residing at No.33 Main Road Wilberforce, it is widely believed.

Summary of Evidence Submitted does not support Indictment of Haja Afsatu Kabba
Freetown, March 16, 2010 (One Year ago): Count 1 and Count 2 of the Anti-Corruption Commission’s 17-count indictment against Haja Afsatu Kabba are identical in nature to Count 9 and Count 10. They all reference a $3,000 dollars allegedly solicited and collected by Madam Lilian Lisk from her Chinese Business partners to allegedly bribe erstwhile Fisheries Minister Afsatu Olayinka Kabba to license Chinese boats. Well, one might be tempted to assume that there are two separate incidents of $3,000 allegations but the SUMMARY OF EVIDENCE submitted does not support this.

In Sierra Leone, Presidential Largesse Creates Chaos
The President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, H.E. Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has lately engaged in what many of his subjects are describing as unfortunate politicking; this sees the President roaming the streets of Freetown dishing out bundles of leone currency notes to hungry-looking youth and other people he meets along the streets. These donations have led to serious chaos amongst youth in communities, as youth now engaged in serious fights over how the donated cash should be shared. Though the rationale for doling out such sums remains unclear, a good number of the citizens who have witnessed those public money splashing instances have described the move by the President as cheap politics.

Afsatu Kabba amp; ACC’s 17 Counts
Today, March 15th is the Ides of March and indeed it was precisely one year ago that Madam Glenna Thompson whom President Koroma’s aides are said to be touting as our next Director of Public Prosecution (OH LORD HELP THIS LAND!!!) and Abdul Tejan-Cole (run-away boy) seriously abused their powers granted under the Anti Corruption Act of 2008. Contrary to applicable Laws of Sierra Leone, these two legal scallywags (Glenna amp; Abdul) swiftly had Haja Afsatu Kabba arraigned in front of Hon. Justice Browne-Marke within 30 minutes of serving a 17-Count indictment on her person. That arraignment was in complete contravention of the Criminal Procedure Act under which all criminal matters are prosecuted in Sierra Leone.

British High Commission in Freetown Blogs for Sierra Leone
British High Commission Freetown has launched a new blog page. In his first blog post as British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Ian Hughes said “the time diplomats sat in ivory towers swapping gossip are long gone. We have 24 hour news piped into our homes, offices and cell phones. We want to participate in what is going on. In Egypt, Iran, Burma and China events are shaped and reshaped as netizens comment, complain, organise and change their world. As High Commissioner I need to understand events and trends around me. Government, parliament, business, civil society and citizens have different perspectives. To understand these I swap opinions across the board, not just with the Freetown chatterati”.

Hon. Chief Justice Umu Hawa Tejan-Jalloh is currently reading out the Supreme Courts decision on the application by Bu-buakei Jabbi to have an injunction placed against the holding of SLPP Convention.... The Supreme Court has just granted Bu-Buakei Jabbi his request and Jabbi is all beaming with broad smiles whilst the Lead Defence Counsel, Eke Halloway Esq. has announced that he will be "totally withdrawing" his representation from the proceedings based on what he says are instructions from the defendants. The other SLPP lawyers, totalling ten in number, seem to be in an irate mood and do not seem to be prepared to speak to the press. It is now just past 9pm and the mammoth SLPP crowd is peacefully leaving the Supreme Court with no need for the armed SSDs to control them.

History in the Making in Sierra Leone at Supreme Court's Hearing of SLPP Court Case
Sierra Leone's Supreme Court is in an unprecedented development as the Honourable Chief Justice and her four Supreme Court Judges on the Bu-Buakei vs. SLPP Panel are still locked up in Chambers as it approaches 9pm apparently deliberating and writing their rulings. The crowd of SLPP supporters surrounding and inside the Supreme Court is growing larger by the minute. This is unprecedented in History of Sierra Leone. At various points in the last three hours of waiting for the Judges, SLPP members inside the court would burst into spontaneous rowdy chants of solidarity. An attempt to send armed police officers into the Supreme Court room to put rowdy SLPP supporters under control was rebuffed as the SLPP ensured the armed SSDs were forced to leave the Court. Awareness Times will update on this live unfolding situation as it unfolds further.
