Introduction OpenEMR Home Page
OpenEMR is an ONC modular “Meaningful Use” certified electronic health records and medical practice management application. It features fully integrated electronic health, records, practice management, scheduling, electronic billing. After an 18 month development effort from our "Meaningful Use" team we have been Meaningful Use Certified for use inside the United States. Currently certified at the "50%" level we expect yo complete another group of modules that will increase this level to 100% in the next two months.p

These programs are also referred to as electronic health records. OpenEMR is licensed under the General Gnu Public License (General GPL). It is a free open source replacement for medical applications such as Medical Manager, Health Pro, and Misys. It features support for EDI billing to clearing houses such as Availity, MD-Online, MedAvant and ZirMED using ANSI X12.

Calendar features include categories for appointment types, colors associated with appointment types, repeating appointments, and the ability to restrict appointments based on type. There are customizable medical encounter forms, support for voice recognition software, and electronic or scanned digital document management for records.p

Its members are comprised of software developers, as well as physicians and those with extensive medical and billing knowledge, all with the common goal of making OpenEMR a viable alternative to its proprietary counterparts.p

OpenEMR is one of the most popular free electronic medical records in use today. SourceForge has recorded over 3,400 downloads per month. This is the equivalent in fair market value of $100,000,000 in donated software a month.
OpenEMR is one of the most versatile electronic medical records and operates in Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X and MS Windows.
OpenEMR enjoys some of the broadest user support and developer support. Currently there are practitioners in the United States, Puerto Rico, Australia, Sweden, Holland, Israel, India, Malaysia, Nepal, Indonesia, Bermuda, Armenia and Kenya that are either testing or actively using OpenEMR for use as a free electronic medical records program. There are many international features and the software has been fully translated in Spanish, Dutch, Greek, and both European and Brazilian Portuguese. Large portions have been translated into Swedish, Norwegian and Chinese.
The development group has professional developers, security specialists, and physicians involved in the development process. Currently, OpenEMR receives support on a regular basis from 23 professional developers in 7 different companies that have been supporting OpenEMR by donating software using the GPL license. Development is coordinated at Source Forge. You can start volunteering simply by signing up at SourceForge on the forums and give us a "hello." Even if you are not a programmer and don't know anything about programming, we can still use your help. Open Source Medical Software is a not-for-profit company that supports OpenEMR and its development.
