Tiberian Sun Installer: Xmas Edition
December 24, 2010 - 20:00
Tore of C amp;C Communications Center presents the Xmas release of their Tiberian Sun Installation program!
New in Xmas release:
The missing or corrupt DLL error has been fixed by setting Windows 98/Me compatibility mode and run as administrator on game.exe during the installation.
The quot;serial already in use quot; issue has been fixed by generating random sets of numbers in the games registry entries (with thanks to Nyerguds).
About #058;
This is a installation program created from the freeware release of Tiberian Sun + Firestorm.
This was created as an easier alternative to the official EA release. This does the entire freeware TS installation process automatically and in a better way and it includes bonuses like the manual and a map editing program.
Features:
Applies necessary registry entries in to the system registry
Option to install the Westwood Online Shared Internet Components
Gives you the option to apply a UDP LAN patch to enable LAN play on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows XP
Generates random sets of numbers as serials to avoid problems in LAN play
Includes the map editor FinalSun
Includes both the original and firestorm manuals in PDF format
Includes all icons from the game discs (Nod, GDI, Nod/GDI, CABAL)
Includes the Tiberian Sun windows themepacks
Allows you to choose if you want to download the ingame cut scenes or not (1.35 GB)
Tested and fully functional on:
Windows XP 32-bit
Windows Vista 32-bit
Windows 7 32-bit
Windows 7 64-bit
And finally, Merry Xmas from myself (Aro) and the rest of the Project Perfect Mod and C amp;C Comm Center staff.

Tiberian Dawn Redux 1.4 Public Beta released!
December 22, 2010 - 20:32
So... for those who thought that I'd just post a news about my return and disappear again, surprise! I'm here. The only problem is that I'm only being able to post something before I sleep, because I'm waking up too late and I have to work. Anyway, I'm in debt with a lot of news that happened in these weeks. So, I'll try to pick some of the best of them today. And, in terms of mods, the best news are obviously mod releases and awards. So, I'm getting a bit of both now. Here's the news:
- gt; Tiberian Dawn Redux 1.4 Publc Beta has been released recently. This is a total conversion for Generals that brings the Tiberian Dawn universe into the game. This version brings even more. Here's the feature list:
1.) Terrain, Water, amp; Lighting Updates
2.) New Volcano Effects
3.) New Particle Effects
4.) New Building Strobe Lights
5.) Special Visual Effects For Tiberium
6.) Retextured Models amp; Modified Animations.
7.) Specular Lighting Applied To Models
8.) New Base Defense: GDI RailGun Turret
9.) New Base Defense: Nod Black Hand Laser Turret
10.) New Stealth Tank quot;Lazarus Shield quot; Visual Effect
11.) Improved Skirmish AI
12.) Improved Framerate
13.) New amp; Improved Skirmish/Multiplayer Maps
14.) New Sound Effects
15.) APC's Can Auto Heal Nearby Infantry
16.) Engineers And Technicians Can Repair Vehicles
And a movie to see how some of these features look like:
embed
Download it at ModDB. And remember that this project has forums at CnC-Comm Center, so post your feedback there as well, if you enjoy the mod.
- gt; C amp;C 3: The Forgotten has been nominated as one of the top 5 best singleplayer mods at ModDB Mod of the Year 2010 by the editors. Congratulations for the Forgotten team, really. ModDB editors hardly have any clue at what does RTS abbreviation means... I mean, they don't play RTS mods... and they only award FPS mods. So, I'm really surprised that they've actually nominated any RTS mod. But this single player category in this year was really an exception (or they were very desesperate, I don't know) because I civilization IV mod has also been nominated. But of course, the winner is never a RTS mod. Afterall, that's ModDB. They'll never understand the amount of work that goes behind a top notch RTS mod when they value more the mods that adds few monsters and weapons to the players. The models in FPS mods are usually more details, since you don't need to place the same amount of units than in a RTS game, but it's certainly much hard to produce a decent RTS mod than most of the great FPS mods.
You may have noticed that I'm exagerating or joking a bit, but those who have seen the older editions of ModDB awards might have noticed that it is really very rare to see a RTS mod being nominated by the editors. While the players usually managed to put two or three RTS at the top ten, editors hardly mention any RTS mod. If the mod is lucky with the editors, it gets an honourable mention. So, the crew from The Forgotten really needs to be congratulated for this achievement. Great job, guys!
The Forgotten has been the first known C amp;C mod to make a campaign supported with full motion videos and real actors. If you wanna know more about this mod, check the trailer below and the mod site.

And that's it for now. Hopefuly, in our next update we'll start to talk more about what happened here in PPM.

Ready to Rock and Roll Again!
December 21, 2010 - 21:01
Hello again! I'm back and ready to give PPM a proper news coverage again. In this semester, I've been struggling to 'survive' in my master course. The pressure was so much intensive with a massive amount of work to do, articles to write for symposiums (teachers need money) and a strict deadline... that I've nearly lost my freelancer job (yea, I also need money) and my scholarship. This course was madness. It was spartan!! I've managed to pass on every subject... and most of them with very good ratings, but I had to spent too many nights powered by Coca-cola to get all homeworks done in time and I've started to notice in process of getting bald. I still need to sleep a lot to recover from it. Anyway, fortunately, the first term is over. I still have other 3 to go. Since I've passed on half of the subjects that I have to do in the whole course, I trully hope that the next terms won't be that hard.
So... this means that I'll start to post the 20 minutes news post per day that I've tried a while ago. There are a lot of news to post, lots of things happened and PPM has been silent for too long.
So, I'll catch up these news very slowly, while I'm still trying to recover from this madness (I mean, university). So, here's some quick round up for this night:
- gt; Our friends at CNCNZ have returned with a new edition of the Roundtable Discussion. In this edition, the panel discussed topics such as C amp;C rumours, community manager, best and worse moments and best mods. The panel was composed by:
Sonic - CNCNZ.com Webmaster
gben - CNCNZ.com Forums Moderator
dbjs2009 - CNCNZ.com News Team
RainXc - CNCNZ.com News Team
Nmenth - CNCNZ.com Forums Moderator
Banshee - Project Perfect Mod
Chickendippers - CNC World
[NE]Fobby[GEN] - Renegade X
Cypher - Planet CNC
HeXetic - Planet CNC
AnNo1935 - CNC Saga.de
Anyway, in this roundtable edition, I've mentioned PPM's birthday in the best moments. I'm aware that the results of the PPM 10th Anniversary Contest were not revealed yet and I'm gonna work on it in this Christmas or in the following days.
- gt; GameReplays.org have conducted an interview with Aaron 'APOC' Kaufman, the ex-C amp;C community manager. Today he works for THQ. Here's a snippet:
Quote: meth: Have you had time to follow much C amp;C wise? C amp;C 4 post release support has not been good, the ladders still don't work and we miss you.
APOC: I've been quietly keeping tabs and noticed the same myself. It's simply because the current C amp;C dev team lacks the resources to support and are focused squarely on rebooting the franchise. That's the 100% fact and it has 0% to do with lack of care which I can't blame the community for thinking, but that is the 100% truth. It's the reality I faced on Feb 1, 2004 when I officially became your CM during the dark days of no Zero Hour support. That infamous 1.03 patch didn't magically appear out of thin air, I had to camp out in between Mark Skaggs and Harvard Bonin's office doors for many nights. Sometimes that is the reality we have to face, and it's sincerely one I fought in the name of the C amp;C community a number of times, and won, and lost, not every battle is won. When the team rehires a Community Manager, I have no doubt you'll start to see support pick up, or at the very least, feel a stronger two-way communication.
But the community cannot pin it on THIS dev team. If I can give the current development team with Sam Bass and JVC some strong defense, they are working incredibly hard on the future of the franchise and it's hard for me to say to you guys at this stage, but their time is better spent on resetting the foundation of the franchise, so it can be reboot properly and put back in its place as one of the best RTS games around. That was the original plan after we released Red Alert 3; C amp;C 4 was a transformation of a C amp;C specific multiplayer game, but based on market conditions and such at the time, we had to drastically change that plan. After C amp;C 4 CommandCOM, the community response to the gameplay was evident that process didn't have the greatest hope of succeeding, but the dev team once again poured sweat and tears in to making that game as great and unique as possible. C amp;C 4 may not have been C amp;C's best moment in the sun, but the current C amp;C dev team is definitely taking some key learning's from it, don't fear. I would say The Matrix Revolutions and the final Star Wars were significantly worse, and I'm sure Twilight: whatever it's called will be too. Come on now!
At this point, the current C amp;C dev team is feeling the unfortunate outcome of that process from a negative community standpoint (i.e. how you guys feel right now), but inside their secret cave, they are reaping the benefits of finally having massive room to breathe and create the next great instalment in the Command amp; Conquer franchise, time is finally on their side. You can't make a great RTS game in 13 months and the fact our former C amp;C team did that nearly 5 times in a row (especially if you count BFME 1, 2, ROTWK, KW, RA3: Uprising), and produced consistent 80+ AAA titles nearly every time is one of the most unheralded and unknown miracle success stories of the video game industry ever. We should write a book on the years 2002 – 2008, or just give a tell-all to WikiLeaks.
Anyway, I must agree with meth and the people who posted comments at CNCNZ about this interview: Aaron, we really miss you.
And that's just the start, because I really wanna sleep now. Tomorrow I'll post more news and we'll also get our mods and community work back to the news as well.

Nod's Technology of Terror
GDI Intelligence has learned of a new defensive measure being used by the Brotherhood of Nod. It seem's the Brotherhood has developed more mobile laser weapons then the notorious Obelisk of Light leading to these Laser Turret's which are a light weapon but in groups can be formidable defence. Particularly as when the Laser Turret's are not in use they fold up into an underground compartment hidden from view.
A Wolverine scout party essentially found itself ambushed by unknowingly walking right into an array of Nod Laser Turret's which appeared to pop up out of nowhere. Caution is advised to all GDI Commander's recommend dispatching some medium Titan class walkers with Wolverine scout party's as the main weakness of the Laser Turret is its range of attack our Titan's can attack these defence's outside their firing range however they will need to be detected first.
GDI Reaching Higher
GDI force's are now putting into field testing the newest generation of Personnel-Jumpjet Technology, these highly mobile aerial combat squads are equipped with highly manuverable Jumpjet Pack, a powerful Vulcan Cannon and is also equipped with a Sensor Kit for detecting stealth or subterranean units. Further details on these quot;Jumpjet Troopers quot; has been classified.
If you feel like it also head over to our moddb site, Facebook page or the forums to check out the new Nod laser turret and GDI jump-jet trooper. You can also now follow us on twitter for the latest updates!

Generals: Shockwave 1.0 Released!
November 25, 2010 - 10:04
Late last night, the SWR Team announced that Shockwave V. 1.0 has been released! Shockwave is a very popular and successful mod for Generals: Zero Hour makes it a much more interesting game with more diversity between the generals, making you think twice before you select a certain general, and overall provide more choices, diversity, and strategic freedom than in Zero Hour - While keeping the spirit and design direction of the original Generals game and storyline.
The_Hunter wrote: After about five years of working on this project, I am proud to announce that ShockWave has finally matured to a stage where it is no longer considered a public beta but a full version. Over the past few weeks, I have been working extra hard to provide all of you with a playing experience surpassing any previous version with a lot of new content, cosmetic improvements and other tweaks.
More media, information and of course, the all important download can be found over on the Shockwave ModDB page. You can also check out the SWR Productions Website for additional information and an alternate download.

New scientific article at PPM.
November 22, 2010 - 21:16
Hey everyone! The end of the first term of my master course is approaching and I'm overloaded with missions that requires assistance from Chuck Norris and other Gods to finish them in time. This is why I'm not posting much news. Fortunately, I'll return with a more frequent news posting service in about 2 weeks. Let's hope Aro and Dutchygamer posts news during this time or anyone decides to post a community news (which we'll promote to the site news, if it is well written).
Today I've added a new scientific article at PPM called Fast Polygonization and Texture Map Extraction From Volumetric Objects Based on Surface Fairing Using a Modified Discrete Laplacian Operator which was presented in SBGAMES 2010, earlier in this month. This work explain a method to convert voxel models from VXLSE III into 3D models with texture.
So, the motivation of this paper comes from our Voxels forum and how it gets much more submissions from those who are starting to create 3D graphics for games, rather than the sum of the models submitted to our 3D Models, Generals Database and even the C amp;C3 Finished Models showcase forums together. In order to create voxel based models in VXLSE III, you don't need to know how 3D graphics are optimized for your video card, neither any sort of maths or optical physics of any kind. And that's what we expect from any decent 3D modelling program in the future: Let artists express their ideas by generating shapes like conventional 3D modelling program and painting voxels instead of dealing with any kind of textures. Textures is for your video card and not the artist.
But that article was written before Kinect (yea, for XBOX 360) was released. With Kinect, we can also use the same trick to transform the Kinect voxel data into 3D models, once we capture the voxel data transforming it into a 3D array of voxels, of course. How about creating yourself as a 3D model and become a unit in your mod? That's what you could do... and there are already drivers to use Kinect on PC, so you won't need an XBOX 360 to do that.
If you are a computer science programming freak, check out the full paper HERE.
Note that we are not mirroring the article itself at PPM, because it belongs to SBGAMES (I had to sign a copyright form to publish it) organization and SBC (Brazilian Computer Society). For this reason, I'll not be updating it either.
