E-mail Fraud Alert
It has come to the attention of UNIFEM that fraudulent e-mail messages have
been circulating the Internet. The messages, allegedly from UNIFEM or UNIFEM
staff members, state falsely that recipients have been selected to receive
money awards from UNIFEM and ask recipients for their personal and bank account
information.
Please note that UNIFEM does not provide money awards to individuals nor does
it request personal or banking information through e-mail messages. Such messages
are ldquo;phishing
scams rdquo; designed to steal recipients rsquo; identities
and money. We urge recipients not to reply to them mdash; please report and
forward them to
UN Climate Change Talks 2010
The international community gathers in Cancun, Mexico, 29 November – 10 December 2010 for the next round of negotiations under The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Governments remain determined to progress on the common objective to combat climate change, address the needs of the most vulnerable, and transition to a green global economy. UNIFEM (part of UN Women) and its partners have stressed that the response set out in a new climate agreement must be gender-sensitive. read

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
The UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women launched a new giving promotion at the annual commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women at UN headquarters in New York. By texting the word UNITE to 27722, people in the United States can donate $10 to the UN Trust Fund for programmes and services on the ground. read

Say NO–UNiTE Initiative Records More than One Million Actions
More than 1 million actions have been registered with UNIFEM rsquo;s Say NO – UNiTE to End Violence against Women initiative as of 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The online effort was launched one year ago to provide a platform for individuals, civil society groups and governments to showcase and record their activities on the issue. It is a direct contribution to the UN Secretary-General’s campaign UNiTE to End Violence against Women. read

UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women – Call for Proposals
Civil society organizations, governments, and UN Country Teams (working in partnerships with governments and civil society) are invited to submit applications for grants of a minimum of US$100,000 up to a maximum of US$1 million for a period of two to three years. The deadline for applications is 20 January 2011. read more
