Westminster is an independent boarding and day school in the heart of Central London next to Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament. Boys can join Westminster at 13+ and girls and boys can join the co-educational sixth form at 16+. The origins of the School can be traced back to the monastic school of the great Benedictine abbey at Westminster which was founded over a thousand years ago. In 1560 Queen Elizabeth I gave the School its statutes in which she said: '...the youth which is growing to manhood, as tender shoots in the wood of our state, shall be liberally instructed in good books to the greater honour of the state...'.

Entry at 7/8+
Boys can enter Westminster via the Under School at 7 or 8 years old

Entry at 11+
Aimed principally at boys from state or independent primary schools at the end of Year 6. Pupils spend two years at the Under School before transferring to Westminster School when they are 13 years old.

Entry at 13+
Boys should be registering for 13+ entry to Westminster School during their first term in Year 6 or earlier. Every year 120 boys enter Westminster School at this stage including 45-50 boys who transfer from Westminster Under School.

Girls and boys may apply to enter Westminster School at this stage. Registration opens in the summer of the year before entry and the entrance examinations take place in November.

Scholarships
Every year, eight 13 year old boys become Queen’s Scholars following the scholarship examinations, known as The Challenge, which are held in early May. Auditions for music scholarships take place in January or February.

Bursaries of up to 100% of the fees are available at 11+, 13+ and 16+ stage for pupils whose parents reside in the UK and cannot afford the full fees.
